ABOUT
Cantadora (Kristine Barrett-voice and piano, and David Robert Johnson-guitar) features sultry folk and new music from Sephardic Spain, Italy, Greece, Corsica, Catalonia, Basque regions, and jazz – bossa nova. The term ‘cantadora’ translates from a variety of Romance languages as “troubadour musician” or “traveling musician”.
The Hot Clams is a music collective featuring jazz manouche, bossa nova, pre-1960’s jazz, and more. Comprised of any combination of musicians, the core ensemble includes David Robert Johnson (guitar, voice), Angus Martin (guitar, accordion, voice), Gavin Smith (clarinet, melodica, and voice), Scott Lipsitz (bass), and Sam Schwartz (drums). Acclaimed violinist Kenneth Renshaw joins the group several times a year, and upon request.
Cantadora + The Hot Clams combines music from each groups repertoires, presenting ballads, jazz standards, Mediterranean folk tunes, waltzes, and more with a jazz manouche twist.
